[뉴욕=박재형 특파원] New York local time 11 (Monday) summarizes major issues before opening the stock market.

Bitcoin surpasses $82K

Bitcoin (BTC) hit a new high, surpassing $82,000 amid an upward trend in the cryptocurrency market following former U.S. President Donald Trump’s presidential election victory. According to CoinMarketCap, as of 7:45 a.m. ET on Monday, Bitcoin is trading at $82,350, up 3.7%. This comes after Bitcoin surpassed $80,000 for the first time ever on Sunday. Other cryptocurrencies also rose. Ethereum (ETH) surpassed $3,100 following $3,000 over the weekend. Susanna Streeter of Hargreaves Lansdowne analyzed that the optimistic atmosphere in the market following Trump’s election is leading to the rise of cryptocurrencies.

Stock market upward trend expected to continue

New York stock index futures rose on Monday, suggesting that last week’s record gains may continue. This rise follows last week when major U.S. indexes hit record highs, with the Dow and S&P 500 posting their strongest weekly gains in a year. In particular, the Dow exceeded 44,000 points for the first time. Last week’s rise was widespread, and both the Nasdaq Composite Index, which focuses on technology stocks, and the Russell 2000 Index, which focuses on small-cap stocks, also recorded upward trends. The Federal Reserve’s interest rate cut added momentum to the upward trend immediately following former President Trump’s presidential election victory.

Resolving election uncertainty

“Investors hate uncertainty,” said Katie Nixon, head of investments at Northern Trust. “With the election now over, the market has gained clarity and no need to worry about the potential for controversy, creating an environment where investors can focus on the fundamentals of the economy and companies,” he said in a client note on Friday. There are no notable economic data releases scheduled for Monday, but investors are expected to focus on inflation figures to be released later in the week.

Stock index futures rise

Based on CNBC data, Dow Jones futures rose 0.43%, Nasdaq futures rose 0.41%, and S&P 500 futures rose 0.39%. In Wall Street Journal data, the U.S. dollar index rose 0.46% to 105.48, the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield fell 4.310%, and WTI futures fell 1.89% to $68.98 per barrel.
