[사회]Bar Association, ban on rotok from tomorrow…

[앵커]

The rules of the Korean Bar Association, which completely ban the participation of legal service brokerage platforms, including ‘Rotok’, will come into effect from tomorrow (4th).

Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye, who manages and supervises lawyers’ associations, has repeatedly expressed his will to evolve, but the policy of disciplinary action against affiliated lawyers is so firm that there are concerns about a series of lawsuits.

The revised advertising regulations of the Korean Bar Association, which prohibits affiliated lawyers from joining the legal platform, will be fully implemented after a three-month training period.

It is aimed at services such as ‘Rotok’, which receives a monthly fee from lawyers and places advertisements on the Internet, and blocks the mediation of lawyers and public relations activities that have received financial compensation. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action at the association level.

Platform companies that have argued that it is not an illegal mediation have raised the level of opposition by filing a constitutional complaint and an injunction for suspension of validity with the Constitutional Court, and reporting a compromise agreement to the Fair Trade Commission.

Recently, an executive of the Bar Association has even filed a complaint with an incumbent reporter for making malicious reports, but the Bar Association’s tough attitude remains unchanged.

The Seoul District Bar Association has already received a complaint requesting disciplinary action against 500 members of the legal platform.

The platform company said that the legal judgment on whether or not to violate the Attorney Act has already ended with the previous investigation agency acquitted, and if the Bar Association enforces disciplinary action, it is a policy that will not bring a lawsuit.

Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye, who manages the Bar Association, said that some concerns of lawyers are meaningful, but he has repeatedly empowered the platform industry.

Technology-based services that provide universal benefits to many people are no exception in the lawyer market.

He said he did not want and expects the Bar Association not to actually discipline the affiliated lawyers.

After the Bar Association announced its disciplinary policy, it is said that the number of lawyers who signed up for RoTalk decreased by 20%, leaving only about 3,000 lawyers.

However, it still accounts for over 10% of all practicing lawyers, so if a large-scale disciplinary process becomes a reality, confusion in the legal world is expected to be inevitable.
