[사회]Highest number of fatalities and severe cases in history … ‘Insufficient beds’ for critically ill patients

[앵커]

The number of new COVID-19 cases has been hovering between 3,900 and 4,000 for the fifth consecutive day.

Medical capacity is being pushed to the limit, with the shortage of beds getting worse in the metropolitan area.

After the gradual recovery of daily life, the spread of COVID-19 has hardly been caught.

The number of new confirmed cases per day has risen to around 4,000 for five consecutive days after exceeding 4,000 for the first time on the 24th.

The supply of hospital beds for critically ill patients is also an emergency.

85.4% of hospital beds for critically ill patients secured in the metropolitan area are already full.

As intensive care beds near saturation, lines waiting to be assigned to beds are getting longer.

The number of patients who did not receive a bed for more than a day in the metropolitan area exceeded 1,000 for three days in a row.

All of them are older than 70 years old or have underlying diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes, and are at high risk for COVID-19.

The problem is that the number of deaths due to lack of hospital beds may increase due to insufficient treatment for critically ill patients.

In fact, the number of severe cases and new deaths was 647 and 56, respectively, all record highs.
