[사회]Repeated ‘fellowship murder’… “7,000 cases of dating violence in 9 months”

[앵커]

Recently, we reported that a woman in her 20s in Incheon was stabbed to death by a knife wielded by a man she broke up with in the past.

According to the most recent statistics, there are more than 7,000 cases of ‘association violence’ in the past nine months, so there are growing calls to overhaul the laws and systems.

Reporter Kim Cheol-hee reports.

He enters the courtroom leaving only a short answer of apology to the repeated questions.

[인천 ‘교제 살인’ 피의자 : (혹시 피해자한테 할 말 없으세요?) 죄송합니다.]

This man is a 20-year-old man accused of stabbing and killing his ex-girlfriend in Incheon on the 23rd.

Mr. A stated that he committed the crime accidentally after arguing while drinking, but the police believe that Mr. A prepared the crime in advance, such as preparing a weapon in advance.

This is not the first time such a homicide has occurred.

In July of last year, 25-year-old Hwang Ye-jin was assaulted by a man she was dating at an officetel in Mapo-gu, Seoul and died.

In March, a 24-year-old woman was strangled to death by her boyfriend in Goyang.

If you look at the actual statistics, between January and September of last year, more than 7,000 people were arrested for violence by a dating partner.

Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of nearly 200 people.

In the past four years alone, the number of people charged with murder alone is close to 200.

Violence in close relationships often does not lead to reports, so the hidden damage is likely to be greater.

Experts point out that in order to prevent violent crime, the first thing to do is to revise the laws and systems to protect the lives of victims.

In addition, voices are constantly being raised that a special law should be enacted to strengthen punishment and reflect it even in sentencing.

Since 2016, the ‘Dating Violence Special Cases Act’ has been proposed several times, but none of them have passed the threshold of the plenary session.
