[사회]The highest number of seriously ill patients in two months…”The vaccination interval shortened to 90 days”

[앵커]

Amidst the increasing human damage caused by Corona 19, attention was drawn to the fact that the scale of ‘hidden infections’ that have not been confirmed is not small.

The government and experts strongly recommend better bivalent vaccines for high risk groups, and the vaccination period has also been shortened to 3 months.

Are you pointing out that the current spread of the COVID-19 epidemic may be more serious than the statistics?

[기자]

Yes. First of all, the number of new patients today is 70,000, an increase of 3,700 from a week ago.

There are 477 seriously ill patients and 53 deaths, but the number of seriously ill patients is in the 400 range for the fifth day, the highest in two months, and the number of deaths has varied between 40 and 60 recently, increasing’ r damage. .

In particular, last summer, when the number of deaths was this high, the number of confirmed cases was much higher than 100,000.

It seems that the number of ‘hidden infections’ that are not caught in the current statistics, that is, that pass without testing for Corona 19 even if the symptoms are mild or were suspected, increased.

The quarantine authorities also devised measures to minimize the damage. Did you shorten the vaccination period?

[기자]

Yes. Previously, four months after vaccination or Corona 19 infection, an additional vaccination was targeted.

We have reduced this period to three months.

This is a measure that takes into account the analysis of the effect of reducing immunity over time, the increase in mutant strains, and foreign trends.

In addition, the 3rd and 4th vaccinations using existing vaccines will be completely stopped from the 17th of next month, and only secondary vaccinations will be carried out.

We are also considering expanding the target of better vaccines to 12 years of age or older as in Europe.

It also began to improve the reliability of vaccines.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention held an expert briefing to answer questions from the public about vaccines, and Prime Minister Han Deok-soo also emphasized that the reported rate of adverse reactions to bivalent vaccines is 1/10 that of current vaccines, and that most symptoms such as headache and muscle pain are mild.
