[사회]”Withered and cracked”… Farmers burned in record heat

[앵커]

The record-breaking heatwave that came after the unusually short rainy season has caused damage all over the country.

In particular, farmers whose main occupation is paddy farming, which requires water, have been hit hard.

A reporter is at the scene of the damage. Reporter Woo-Jun Kim!

The rain continues today.

Is the damage to the farmhouse serious?

[기자]

Yes, it is.

Even though the heat wave warning has been issued here in the morning, the sun is already stinging down to the nape of the neck.

Even if I stand still, sweat is dripping down my face.

The sweat dripping down on the mask makes it difficult to even breathe.

When I measured it with a thermometer, it was 32 degrees, and the sensible temperature was close to 35 degrees.

People are this hot, and crops are not doing well.

None of the crops I see next to me are standing properly.

As if someone was trying to pull him from above, he collapsed helplessly.

A really big problem is paddy farming, where water is essential.

Let’s go directly to the paddy field where rice farming is in full swing.

Normally, the paddy fields, which should always be filled with water, are dry.

It reminds me of even the shell of a tortoise.

The crevices are deep enough for my adult hand to fit in.

Under this circumstance, there is no way that rice, which should be sprouting in full swing, is prosperous.

The tip of the rice is already burning red.

I can’t stand the scorching sun, and I’m dry.

The root situation is even more serious.

I’ll pick it up myself.

Roots, which should always be in contact with water, are covered with piles of dry soil.

Seen from afar, the green rice fields look so dry when viewed up close.

Farmers looking at this are worried as if a heavy lead is placed on their chest.

Let’s take a look and talk about how serious the damage is.

Father, please introduce yourself.

[인터뷰]

Hello? I’m Park Sang-won, who lives in Munho-ri.

[기자]

Father, at a glance, the damage situation is serious. Please describe the damage situation.

[인터뷰]

We can’t tell you the exact amount of damage, and we can’t harvest if the situation is like this. I can’t get a harvest and how should I take measures now, but I wish the government or the city would take action.

[기자]

It seems to be experiencing the rainy season last year and the drought and double hardship again this year.

[인터뷰]

When it dries, the salt rises again. So the drought is getting worse and the situation is urgent, now. I can’t say anything.

[기자]

Father, I understand. thank you.

Here in Munho-ri, Hwaseong-si, where I am, about 50 households are farming.

The only reservoir in this town, of course, is in a situation where even the groundwater has dried up, to some degree,

All suffered large and small damage.

In the heatwave that continues today, like the cracked rice fields in front of me, the hearts of farmers are inevitably burned to the ground.

Until now, this is YTN Kim Woo-jun from Munho-ri, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do.
