[스포츠한국 조은애 기자] This year’s Lunar New Year holiday box office box office battle has been narrowed down to a three-way battle between ‘Dog Days’, ‘Picnic’, and ‘Deadman’. Although it is a holiday considered the most important time of the year, it has a very different atmosphere from previous years. This is because, instead of the domestic and foreign blockbusters that traditionally fill the screens around this time of year, small and medium-sized films take the lead. This appears to be an aftereffect of the recent cumulative box office failures. Last year’s Lunar New Year blockbuster films ‘Negotiation’ and ‘Ghost’ with a total production cost of over 10 billion won, as well as ‘Cobweb’, ‘Dr. Chun’s Exorcism Lab: Secrets of the Snow Scene’, and ‘1947 Boston’, which were targeted at the Chuseok holiday, did not enjoy the holiday special. With Chae’s exit, there appears to have been a change in the strategy of domestic investment and distribution companies in selecting the release time. While the boundaries between peak and off-peak seasons have become blurred, the audience’s demand for high-quality works has become more clear, and the battle for content competitiveness is expected to be fiercer than the formula for box office success this holiday season.

Yoon Yeo-jeong, a ‘outside and inside out’ architect… ‘Dog Days’

‘Dog Days’, presented by CJ ENM, depicts the story of a newly born child who meets a special best friend and changes every day, including successful architects, MZ riders, single men and women, and beginner parents. The story is told in a warm and cheerful tone as characters who have their own concerns form a relationship with their dog, heal their wounds, and gradually grow up. This is a work that competes with human drama and sophisticated humor instead of forced new genre. It is expected to receive support from a wide audience as it causes comfortable laughter throughout without any major provocative elements.

Despite the small story, the cast lineup is nothing short of gorgeous. Yoon Yeo-jeong, who won Best Supporting Actress at the 93rd Academy Awards, appeared as a successful architect and showed off her laid-back charm, and Yoo Hae-jin played a sensitive but deep-hearted single man, making people laugh big and small. Here, trustworthy leading actors such as Kim Yun-jin, Jeong Sung-hwa, Kim Seo-hyung, and Daniel Henney were responsible for the cute episodes.

From meeting at 16 to 80, friendship never gets old… ‘picnic’

‘Picnic’, released by Lotte Entertainment, is a story about two friends, best friends and in-laws, who travel to their hometown Namhae together for the first time in 60 years and reconnect with memories from when they were 16. This film was invited to the 28th Busan International Film Festival last year and received a great response. It deals with friendship and love encountered only in the twilight of life.

In particular, the skillful acting of the actors, who boast a total of 195 years of acting experience, is the essence of ‘Picnic’. In reality, Na Moon-hee, Kim Young-ok, and Park Geun-hyung, who have been in a long-term relationship, each completed a strong collaboration with their heavy presence. While the childish innocence and joys and sorrows of old age that they delicately portray make the tip of one’s nose tingle, it stands out even more because it is a rare film with elderly actors playing the main characters.

Cho Jin-woong, the ace of the pantsuit company… ‘Deadman’

PlusM Entertainment’s ‘Deadman’ is the story of a so-called businessman ace who makes money by living up to his name, but after being falsely accused of embezzling 100 billion won and being forced to live as a ‘dead man’, he sets out to track down people who are entangled with just one name and the life that was stolen from them. . It is attracting the attention of genre fans as the only crime chase drama during this Lunar New Year holiday.

Cho Jin-woong played the role of Lee Man-jae, who went from being an ace in the business world to losing everything overnight and being imprisoned in a private prison in China. His desperate struggle to regain his lost name and life is the backbone of ‘Deadman’. Kim Hee-ae’s bold transformation also stands out. Ms. Shim, a consultant who dominated the political world, was built up with her bold charisma and unique, perfect diction. It is expected to be a box office success thanks to the strange chemistry between the two people who go back and forth between allies and enemies, and the pleasure given by the fresh story surrounding the crime of name-trading.
