[영상] Russian troops virtually occupy Mariupol, Ukraine The remaining 160,000 residents

(Seoul = Yonhap News) After the outbreak of the Ukrainian War, the strategically important Mariupol, which had been heavily bombarded for a long time, was effectively handed over to Russian forces.

According to CNN reports on the 28th (local time), Mariupol Mayor Vadim Wojchenko said in an interview with CNN that most of the Mariupol region, where numerous casualties were caused by Russian shelling, is under Russian military control.

“Not everything is within our authority,” he said. “Unfortunately, today we are in the hands of the occupying forces.”

He also urged action to be taken to safely evacuate an estimated 160,000 people still remaining in the city devastated by the Russian attack.

Mayor Wojchenko said, “These people are living in an environment where it is impossible to live due to lack of supplies such as water, electricity and heating. It’s really terrible.”

“The most important mission for us is to save all lives and bus drivers are working to pick up the residents in Mariupol,” he said. “But Russia has been playing with us from day one.”

The Ukrainian side claimed that the Russian military was blocking access to evacuation vehicles and humanitarian aid for the people of Mariupol.

However, the pro-Russian separatist leader countered that about 1,700 Mariupol residents were evacuated every day on the 27th.

Before the Russian attack, more than 400,000 people lived in Mariupol, but it is estimated that about 290,000 people have left their home since the outbreak of the war. Let’s see the video.
