Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on the 7th that “the killing of civilians is a war crime” and that “Russia should be held strictly accountable” in connection with allegations that Russian troops massacred civilians in Ukraine, Kyodo News reported.

Prime Minister Kishida met with reporters on the same day and said, “Japan is requesting the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate war crimes.”

He said additional sanctions against Russia would be announced as early as the 8th.

The Japanese government has decided to directly rent seats on a Japan-Poland flight to transport Ukrainian refugees to Poland.

Prime Minister Kishida said, “Twenty Ukrainian refugees who are unable to come on their own have arrived in Japan on a government plane.”

While the International Energy Agency (IEA) member states have agreed to release an additional 120 million barrels of oil to stabilize soaring oil prices, Prime Minister Kishida announced that the Japanese government and the private sector will release 15 million barrels.

Japan decided to release its national oil stockpiles for the first time since the national stockpile system began in 1978.
