(Istanbul = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Seung-wook = Ukrainian officials said that peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine’s delegation will continue via videoconference.

According to dpa news agency, Ukrainian ruling party leader David Harahamiya said on social media on the 31st (local time) that “peace negotiations will resume online on Friday (1st of next month)”.

“At the Istanbul negotiations, we once again proposed a summit between the presidents of the two countries,” he added.

Speaking of Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich, who is known to mediate talks between the two countries behind the scenes, Harahamiya said, “We have provided an informal dialogue channel through which we can have conversations in everyday language, not diplomatic language.”

“I don’t think Abramovich is a neutral person, but it is certain that he is more neutral than the official Russian negotiator,” he said.

Representative Harahamiya attended the 5th peace negotiations held in Istanbul, Turkey on the 29th as the head of the Ukrainian delegation.

At the negotiating table on that day, Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea, an English professional soccer team, and a symbolic figure of a Russian up-and-coming conglomerate (Oligarch), appeared and drew attention.

Some observers suggest that he may be Putin’s ‘secret envoy’, given that he is close to Putin.

In the Istanbul negotiations, Ukraine’s side said it could accept the neutralization that Russia had been asking for if its security was guaranteed.

He also proposed not to attempt to retake Crimea by force on the issue of Crimea, which Russia annexed by force in 2014, and to consult with Russia on the status of Crimea for the next 15 years.

Russia has positively evaluated Ukraine’s written request and said it would provide an official response after reviewing it.
