105,000 damage complaints to Kakao… 15% claim financial compensation for free services

Kakao, which started compensation for service failures due to the C&C Pangyo SK Co., Ltd data center fire, has so far received 105,000 cases of damage complaints, of which about 15% claim financial compensation related to free services.

At the second ‘Damage Support Council 1015’ meeting held the day before the 2nd, Kakao announced that it had classified and divided 105,116 damage cases received from October 19th to the 6th of last month by type.

Among them, 87,198 cases, or 83%, were related to Kakao’s own services. The remaining 17% is Kakao Mobility, Kakao Pay[377300] As a case related to the Kakao community (linked), it was passed on to all links.

Among Kakao-related cases, 89.6% of the victims were reported by ordinary users. Small businesses accounted for 10.2%, and medium and large enterprises accounted for 0.2%.

The number of complaints about paid services was 14,918 (17.1%), and among free services, around 13,198 cases (15.1%) claimed financial damage.

In addition, 67.8% were identified as inquiries, opinions, protests, and encouragement that did not involve financial damage.

Kakao announced that it has already completed compensation for compensation related to paid services.

The second council meeting was attended by senior vice president Song Ji-hye of Kakao, auditor Kim Ki-hong of the Federation of Small Businesses, general manager Cha Nam-soo, Korea Startup Forum CEO Choi Seong-jin, and secretary general Consumer Federation of Korea. Jeong Ji-yeon, fair trade and consumer protection expert Professor Choi Nan-seol-heon.

The advisory body discusses the establishment of main principles for specific compensation standards, amounts, and policies based on data from analyzes of damage causes.

Separately, Kakao plans to analyze the cause of the service failure and reveal measures to prevent a recurrence at the annual developer conference ‘If Kakao’, which will be held on the 7th to the 9th.

The announcement will be made by the co-chairman of the Kakao Emergency Response Committee, Nam Gung-hun and Go Woo-chan, the Recurrence Prevention Subcommittee of the Kakao Emergency Response Committee, Lee Hak-young, the chairman of the Case Investigation Subcommittee , and Lee Chae-young, head of the Technology Division.

Kakao said, “The advisory body plans to continue holding meetings to discuss the criteria for aid subdivided according to the type of damage.”
