18-year-old Radukanu becomes first player to reach US Open semifinals US Open

New York: 18 – year – old Emma Radukanu’s dream trip to the US Open tennis tournament in Wonderland as a dream trip. The British teenager, who defeated Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bellucci in straight sets (6–3, 6–4) in the quarterfinals, continues her run without losing a single set at the US Open.

Radukanu, ranked 150th in the world, qualified for the main round of the US Open by winning qualifying matches. The teenager also became the first player to reach the US Open semifinals through the qualifying round during the Open season. He is the fourth player in the history of Grand Slam tennis to achieve this feat. With this, the number of teenagers competing in the women’s semifinals has doubled. Leila Fernandez, 19, ranked 73rd in Canada, had already reached the semis.

In the semi-finals, 17th seed Maria Zacharias of Greece will be the opponent. Leila Fernandes will face 2nd seed Arena Sabalenka in the second semi.
