18,000 people, the most on New Year’s Day… More worrying after the holidays

Are you spending the Lunar New Year holiday safely and kindly?

During the holidays amid the corona virus, the number of new confirmed cases recorded an all-time high of 18,000.

There were over 80,000 home-treated people.

Since the spread is a bit faster than the government initially expected, I am worried that if the number of tests increases after a large movement during the holidays, the epidemic will far exceed the previous estimate.

First, reporter Lee Duk-young reports.

Omicron mutations are spreading at a rapid rate, even during the holidays.

There are 18,343 new cases of COVID-19.

For the first time, there were 18,000 confirmed cases in one day, and it broke the all-time high in two days.

The PCR test positive rate was also the highest.

It more than doubled in one week to 9.3%.

After the Lunar New Year holiday, when the number of tests is reduced, the number of confirmed cases will increase more than now, increasing the possibility of 30,000 daily confirmed cases in mid-February, as the government predicted.

“The rapid antigen test is also running, so some patients are being omitted… Now, the number of unconfirmed confirmed cases will start to increase significantly.”

The number of at-home care workers has already surpassed 80,000 and is expected to soon reach 102,000, which medical institutions can handle.

“It is necessary to take various measures to maintain society for those who are quarantined at home or the treatment system for mild patients…”

Due to the low severity of the omicron mutation, the medical system still has sufficient capacity to respond.

The utilization rate of critically ill beds is only 16.3%, with 272 critically ill patients and 17 deaths.

For this reason, there is a positive outlook that the level will be at a level that allows normal recovery within this year.

“The transmission power is strong, but a less fatal child (omicron mutation) has been developed and a treatment has been developed… Now it will be slowly finished.”

However, it is the opinion of experts that a rapid and immediate recovery of daily life is too early and compliance with quarantine rules is still necessary.

This is because if you take off the mask and go back to your old routine, mutation can occur in such a way that the fatality rate rises again.
