2024 Gangwon Youth Olympic Winter Games Torch Relay Arrives in Samcheok City

A torch relay was held in Samcheok to pray for the success of the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games and to create prosperity.

The Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee held the ‘2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games Torch Relay’ event at the Samcheok Samil High School Gymnasium on the 14th with Mayor Park Sang-soo, Superintendent Shin Soon-geum, Police Chief Kwak Byeong-il , and approximately 300 students from Samil Middle and High School in attendance.

The attendees prayed with one mind and one heart that the 2024 Games, held for the first time in Asia, would be a successful event and a platform for the dreams and passions of Asian youth. In particular, Samil High School Taekwondo team member Jeong Joo-hyuk, gold medalist in the 68kg high school boys division at this year’s 104th National Sports Festival, Lee Dong-hyeon (1st year), Hong Jin-hyeong (2nd year ), and Ham Ji-woo (1st year) stepped forward to ignite the Samcheok City torch ride.

The event was held in a variety of ways, including lighting the torch to pray for the success of the Olympic Games, experiencing winter sports such as curling, making recycled key rings, OX quizzes to teach about Olympic values, and cultural performances by a Youth Orchestra Samcheok. This torch relay event is being held in 18 cities and counties of the state from the 7th of last month to the 28th of this month to pray for the successful hosting of the Games and to create an atmosphere Olympic.

Mayor Park Sang-soo and Superintendent Shin Soon-geum said, “We sincerely welcome the arrival of the torch, the flame of the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games, in Samcheok, a clean hydrogen city, a city with 10 million tourists, and a mecca sport.” “I hope that the vision of ‘sports that lead to growth and a peaceful future opened up through coexistence and harmony’ will be perfectly realised,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held in areas such as Pyeongchang, Gangneung, Jeongseon, and Hoengseon from January 19 to February 1 next year with approximately 2,900 young people from 70 countries participating.
