Carnival is just around the corner and today I will show you three simple DIY costume ideas for children that you can make yourself with Cricut. Here in Berlin, carnival is more of a topic for children. You can also transfer the basic idea of my costumes to costumes for adults: Embellish a jumper / jacket with Iron-On foil and add a mask – the costume is ready. I show you a mermaid costume, a dragon costume and a robot costume. Detailed instructions are available in the YouTube video. Below I’ll link you to all the materials and the appropriate projects in the Design Space.

I uploaded the designs to the design space and immediately finished the projects for you. Feel free to follow me in the Design Space, where I always post all the projects I make with Cricut:

What I used as materials for my costumes:

The mermaid costume is made easy: a two-layer Iron-On shell bra pressed onto a sweater and a matching mask with pretty shells and a crown. I combined it with holo pants. A rainbow tulle skirt is also great here. Of course you can simply sew the clothes yourself, you can see what else you might have or just get basic clothes for it. The great thing about all three costumes is that you can continue to wear the clothes (especially as a child) in everyday life.

For the costume, I drew a mask and the shells myself as a template and made them available in the Design Space. I also finished a project for the complete costume right here:

When I asked my son which costume he would like to wear for carnival, he promptly replied “Robot!” I thought that was a very cool idea and went straight to a design for a robot sweater with a matching mask!

The robot costume project again consists of a paper mask and a robot hub cut out of Iron-On and then pressed onto a sweater. Here you can find the project in my Design Space:

I love this dragon jacket! The idea is so simple and the result turned out very cool. For the dragon costume, Iron-On wings are pressed onto a hoodie jacket. Small spikes made from fabric remnants such as soft shell or felt are then sewn on. Add the matching mask and the dragon costume is complete!

Again, I created the designs for you and made them available in the Design Space. In addition to the mask and the wings, there is also a pattern for the spikes.

With the Cricut machines you can implement a wide variety of creative projects. For my projects today, I had the classic Iron-On foils and paper cut to size. But the possibilities go even further with the Cricut Maker 3. My DIY projects have taken on a whole new level of professionalism! I show you my new Cricut creations about once a month. The most important materials such as suitable tools, heat transfer presses, foils, paper and much more can also be found at Cricut.
