Brazil’s Quota System in Santa Catarina: Government Declares It Unconstitutional

A sanção da lei que proíbe‌ a política de cotas raciais em universidades públicas de Santa Catarina ou nas que recebem recursos do governo estadual nesta quinta-feira (22)⁢ causou reação do governo federal. O Ministério da Igualdade Racial⁢ se‍ pronunciou e afirmou que a ⁣medida é inconstitucional. Ao chamar a medida de “retrocesso de direitos”, o Ministério ‍da Igualdade Racial afirmou ⁣que ela colide com “diversos normativos promotores de igualdade ⁢aprovados e aprimorados nos últimos anos pelo Governo⁣ Federal”.⁣ A pasta ‍destacou que vê as​ cotas raciais⁢ e as ações afirmativas como “a maior política reparatória do ⁣Brasil”.

“Tentativas de retrocesso nos direitos conquistados serão combatidas veementemente pelo ministério, cuja⁤ missão primeira é zelar pela democracia e pela ⁤dignidade​ do povo negro⁣ do Brasil, lutando para defender e ampliar políticas públicas consistentes para enfrentar as desigualdades no nosso país”, escreveu, em nota, o ministério.
