Tanzania to Sign $42 Billion LNG Project Deal by June
Tanzania expects to finalize an agreement for its $42 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) project before June, with production anticipated to begin within eight years, a senior government minister announced Monday.
Equinor EQNR.OL and Shell SHEL.L are the joint operators of the massive gas project. The project will unlock 47.13 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves. Exxon Mobil XOM.N,Pavilion Energy,Medco Energi MEDC.JK, and the Tanzanian Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) are also partners.
Development of the project had been stalled due to proposed changes to the financial terms of the agreement reached in 2023.
With access to important natural gas reserves, the LNG project is expected to boost Tanzania’s economy and energy independence.
