OSU Softball Dominates Cal 15-2 in Five Innings – Austin & Timm Lead the Way

Cowgirls Dominate Cal in Run-Rule Victory, Improve to 3-1

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Oklahoma State Cowgirls delivered a commanding performance Saturday, defeating the California Golden Bears 15-2 in a five-inning run-rule victory at the Stanford Softball Stadium. The win improves Oklahoma State’s overall record to 3-1, while California falls to 0-2.

Freshman Jayelle Austin powered the Cowgirls’ offense with a grand slam, and Claire Timm drove in an impressive five runs. The 13-run margin of victory marked OSU’s largest over Cal in a series dating back to 1981, and only the fifth time in the last decade that the Bears have conceded 15 or more runs in a single game.

The Cowgirls’ offensive explosion came after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning. Oklahoma State responded emphatically, scoring 15 unanswered runs to secure the decisive victory. A six-run second inning, highlighted by Austin’s grand slam and a two-run home run from Timm, quickly shifted the momentum. The Cowgirls continued their dominance in the third, adding seven more runs fueled by a two-run double from Karli Godwin, a two-run single from Timm, an RBI double from Amanda Hasler, and an RBI triple from Aubrey Jones.

Ruby Meylan earned the win in relief, entering the game with two Cal runners on base and one out in the first inning. Meylan effectively shut down the Bears’ offense, retiring the first 11 batters she faced and allowing no hits while striking out four in 4.2 innings of work. Her performance solidified the Cowgirls’ control of the game.

Oklahoma State has been particularly strong at the Stanford Invitational, having outscored their opponents 32-5 in their last three games – including a win over San Jose State and two against California. This marks the second five-inning run-rule victory for the Cowgirls during the tournament.

The Cowgirls will conclude play at the Stanford Invitational later today with a 5:30 p.m. CT contest against the host Stanford Cardinal.
