HumanitZ Exits Early Access, Launches Full Version with Extensive Overhaul

After over two years in Early Access, Yodubzz Studios’ open-world isometric survival sandbox game, HumanitZ, has officially launched its 1.0 version on Steam. The release is accompanied by a 40% launch discount for a limited time, and a demo is also available for prospective players.

HumanitZ drops players into a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a zombie outbreak, where civilization has crumbled and humanity exists in isolated pockets. The game focuses on the challenges of survival against hunger, exposure, infection, and the ever-present threat of the undead – referred to as ‘zeeks’ within the game world.

Open-World Sandbox with Co-op and PvP Options

Players can choose to navigate this hostile landscape alone or team up with other survivors. The game offers a sprawling open world, described as “Anywhere, USA,” allowing for scavenging in urban ruins or establishing a self-sufficient existence in the wilderness through farming, hunting, and fishing. Both single-player and online co-op modes are supported, with options for both Player versus Environment (PvE) and Player versus Player (PvP) experiences on dedicated and player-hosted servers.

Survival in HumanitZ requires crafting weapons, essential consumables, and fortified shelters to defend against increasingly aggressive and deadly zombies. The developers have indicated that the infected have become “twice as deadly” and “more starved for human flesh” in the 1.0 release.

Significant Changes in Version 1.0

The launch of version 1.0 represents a substantial overhaul of the game, driven by feedback from the Early Access community. Yodubzz Studios has redesigned and remastered the open world, making it “denser, darker, and more dangerous.” Dynamic weather systems, drivable vehicles, and unpredictable hazards contribute to a unique and replayable survival experience.

Character customization has been significantly expanded with revamped skill trees and professions. Players can now engage in “risky multiclassing,” allowing for deeper specialization and more diverse character builds. The infection system has also been reworked to spread in real-time, forcing players to make quick decisions to avoid a grim transformation.

New Zombie Variants and Permadeath Mode

The zombie population in HumanitZ has been diversified with new variants that are more aggressive and unpredictable, demanding constant adaptation from players. For those seeking the ultimate challenge, a Permadeath Mode offers a high-stakes experience where death is permanent. Players also have extensive control over the difficulty and overall harshness of the apocalypse through world and survival settings.

The game’s development began well before its Early Access launch in 2023, with Yodubzz Studios, a small indie team, dedicating years to the project. The studio has stated that the 1.0 release is not the end of development, but rather “just [HumanitZ’s] next evolution,” with plans to continue adding content and improvements.

Bridging the Gap Between DayZ and Project Zomboid

HumanitZ occupies a unique space within the zombie survival genre, drawing inspiration from both the realistic, ground-level survival of DayZ and the overhead, isometric perspective of Project Zomboid. This blend of styles aims to offer a compelling experience for fans of both types of games. The game’s launch has already garnered “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam, with players praising the consistent updates and overall content offering.

The full version of HumanitZ requires players to start a new game, but the developers encourage this, citing the extensive changes and additions as justification. The game is currently available for on PC via Steam for $19.99 USD, with the 40% launch discount applied.
