St. Cloud Woman Identified as Daughter of Minnesota Gubernatorial Candidate
– A 22-year-old woman fatally stabbed in St. Cloud, Minnesota, on Saturday night has been identified as Hallie Marie Tobler, the daughter of Jeff Johnson, a candidate for Minnesota governor.
The St. Cloud Police Department (SCPD) reported that officers responded to a medical emergency at approximately 8:20 p.m. On Saturday in the 3100 block of 40th Avenue South. Upon arrival, they discovered Tobler with multiple stab wounds and a male subject with life-threatening injuries. Tobler was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have identified the injured male as Dylan Michael Tobler, 23, Hallie’s husband. According to the SCPD, Dylan remains hospitalized in stable condition and is currently in police custody. He will be transported to the Stearns County Jail to face charges related to the homicide once he is released from the hospital.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Tobler’s injuries were consistent with multiple stab wounds, according to reports.
Jeff Johnson, a former St. Cloud City Council member, announced on Monday that he is suspending his campaign for governor following his daughter’s death. The Republican Party of Minnesota confirmed the suspension.
Investigators have revealed a history of domestic issues involving the couple. According to a statement from CrimeWatchMpls, Dylan Tobler was recently convicted on a charge of disorderly conduct. The complaint in that case detailed an incident in mid-June 2025 where he allegedly choked the victim, identified only as “HMT” in court documents, but was not initially charged with a more serious offense. The charge was later downgraded to a petty misdemeanor.
The investigation remains active, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the St. Cloud Police Department. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the SCPD at 320-251-1200 or Tri-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-255-1301, or to visit www.tricountycrimestoppers.org.
Johnson served on the St. Cloud City Council from 2010 to 2019. He received 139 votes in last week’s Republican caucus straw poll for governor, according to reports.
