Blue Hose Fall to Charleston Southern, Prepare for UNC Asheville Matchup

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (12-14, Big South: 5-6) suffered an 84-67 defeat on the road against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (12-14, Big South: 3-8) on Thursday night. Jonah Pierce led all players in scoring with 23 points, while Carl Parrish added 14 points for the Blue Hose. HOW IT HAPPENED The game began with Pierce scoring a layup 41 seconds in. Charleston Southern responded with a 10-0 run before another layup from Pierce halted their momentum. This layup sparked a 6-1 run by Presbyterian, narrowing the Buccaneers’ lead to 11-8. Charleston Southern extended their advantage to 30-18 with 7:58 remaining in the first half. Triston Wilson then converted four consecutive free throws, bringing the Blue Hose within eight points. A three-pointer from Parrish further reduced the deficit to six, making the score 34-28 with 4:47 on the clock. Presbyterian closed the first half strongly, scoring eight of the final ten points to trail 40-37 at halftime. Charleston Southern opened the second half with five unanswered points. Presbyterian answered with a 5-0 run of their own, highlighted by a three-pointer from Josh Pickett and a pull-up jumper from Parrish. The Buccaneers quickly regained control, pushing their lead to 57-51. A layup by Pickett with 11:38 remaining brought the Blue Hose within four points, 57-53, but they were unable to close the gap further. INSIDE THE BOXSCORE Pierce’s 23-point performance marked his ninth 20-point scoring game of the season. During the first half, with 15:35 on the clock, Pierce surpassed 1,500 career points in college basketball. Parrish recorded his 19th double-figure scoring game of the season with his 14 points. NEXT GAME The Blue Hose will conclude their two-game Big South Conference road trip at UNC Asheville on Saturday, February 14, with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
