A celebration of the diverse imagination of Bashir’s life- E. Santosh Kumar

Riyadh: Writer E. said that the great genius Basheer was not only a release of experience but also a celebration of life’s diverse imagination. Santosh Kumar. He was inaugurating the online program commemorating Basheer under the title ‘A Poove Nee Ahe Karde’, the second Smriti in the Sargaparampara conceived by Chilla Riyad with the aim of getting to know the writing and artistic life of the great talents of Malayalam literature. Santosh Kumar added that writing and personal life were not two, Basheer was one. ‘A Poove Nee Adi Kari’ was the first one-day event to be held by Chilla after the break caused by the Covid-19 period.

Chilla Coordinator Suresh Lal gave introduction at Sargasmriti held at Istraha, Badia. Then Prof. M.N. Manoj Kizhissery and Shafi sang the song ‘Basheermala’ written by Karassery. The screening of the documentary ‘Basheer the Man’ directed by MA Rahman helped the audience to understand Basheer’s life views more clearly. Creating the atmosphere of Basheer’s Vailal courtyard, children Leah Khadija and Deepak Dev performed ‘Basheer and Pathumma and Goat’ to the acclaim of the audience. Vipin Kumar delivered the first lecture on ‘Basheer: A Timeless Art’. He made the observation that Basheer’s characters and story world are universal in nature and hence the beauty of art can be discussed at all times. Musa Komban introduced the lecture.

The second lecture ‘Environment and Politics in Basheer’ was introduced by Shahiba VK and presented to Seeba Koo. Seeba noted that Basheer, who planted gardens even in prisons, was simultaneously a writer of the humane environment and the oppressed. In collaboration with Vinod Kumar Malail and Baiju Kearssery, Murali Kaniyarat Basheer’s story ‘Oru Manman’ was staged. ‘A Man’ was the most beautiful presentation of Basheer’s sense of humanity. He opined that all the great talents of the world have defiantly broken the grammar not only of language but of life itself and Basheer is the only such genius in Malayalam. The panel discussion organized based on three lecture topics was moderated by writer Bina. Shafiq Thalassery, Nasser Karakunn, Vinayan, Basheer Kanjirapuzha, Sulaiman Vizhinjam, Sabina M.Sally, Sourav and Prasad Vanchipura spoke in the debate. Musa Komban concluded the program. An exhibition of caricatures drawn by Sajeev Karathedi and Abhay Dev and works by Basheer was held parallel to the programme. Chilla’s cultural audience has requested the Kerala government to take steps to develop Basheer’s residence in Vailal as a public cultural center in the context of Basheer’s writings with the cooperation of his family.
