Someone who carries in his mind a delay in arriving in the UAE. It’s been six years since Nuweis, the founder of Impex, came to know the UAE. But it is clear from his words that he has been close to this country for six decades. Nuweis describes the UAE as a ‘land built on love’.
From Manjeri to the metropolis
Nuweis entered the business in 1999 through the sale of inverter products. Access to Impex was through a small UPS manufacturing unit in his hometown of Malappuram Manjeri. Impex was launched in 2006. The aim was to provide quality electronics equipment to the common man at affordable rates. The products were imported from China. The marketing strategies they got were from IIM Kozhikode. Impex created the toll free number revolution in this area. At a time when even social media was not so popular, Impex made a difference by providing home service on a phone call. It was a new experience for the customers. Impex starts home service 24 hours a day at a time when the best service is not available even when visiting service centers. This service was the main reason for the growth of the organization. Later many institutions followed this path. With the launch of electronic products at affordable prices for anyone, Impex has filled homes.
Impex is now a leading brand in the electronics home appliance market. A brand that has found a niche in the electronics and home appliances sector with multinational companies.
Impex’s business vision is to make the latest technology available to the general public at affordable prices. Technology is changing over time. Every year new products conquer the market. However, Impex’s products lie with the same technology.
Impex has over 400 products in three categories: Consumer Electronics Home Appliances (Home Entertainment), Non-Electrical Home Appliances (Kitchen Appliances) and Electro-Mechanical Home Appliances (Kitchen and Home Appliances). Despite many setbacks, the company has managed to hold on without falling or faltering.
Impex is an employer
The company, which started in Kerala with small footprints, has now expanded beyond Kerala to UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. Outside the state, there are distribution centers in Chennai and Bangalore. There are about 1400 employees working in various departments in all these places. Impex employs many people at once. Impex is proud to say that most of these are Malayalees. Nuweis said. Nuweis added that the aim is to turn India, the largest market, into a manufacturing hub.
Impex’s growth is currently at three manufacturing sites in India. Of these, two are in Kerala and one in Karnataka. Established its own factory in Kerala in 2012 as part of its efforts to market products tailored to the needs of its customers. The plant in Kochi manufactures 1500 LED TVs per day in two shifts. The factory at Kakkanad is home to some of the finest Indian brands of high technology. There is also a gas stove factory here. The plant in Bangalore manufactures about 3,500 pressure cookers and 5,000 nonstick cookware. Impex also relies on state-of-the-art automated robotics technology.
At the crossroads, the UAE
Impex first arrived in the Gulf in 2012. It started in Saudi Arabia. He soon arrived in the UAE. From there, Impex grew into another GCC and is now targeting the African market. The gateway to this is Dubai. The plan is to conduct an African operation here.
