AAP to Face Charges for Money Laundering in Delhi Liquor Policy Scam: ED Seeks Legal Advice

ED to File Charges Against AAP for Money Laundering in Delhi Liquor Policy Scam Case

New Delhi:

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is set to file charges against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi liquor policy scam case, accusing them of money laundering. This move comes after a recent reference by the Supreme Court. The ED has claimed that the AAP is the beneficiary of the black money involved in the case.

The Supreme Court questioned why the AAP had not been charged in the Delhi Liquor Policy scam case, considering its alleged involvement in money laundering. The question was raised during the bail petition hearing of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. A bench of Supreme Court judges, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice SV Bhatti, presided over the case.

Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, it is believed that a political party has benefited from the Delhi Liquor Policy scam. However, no charges have been brought against this political party, despite being made a party in the case. The Supreme Court sought clarification on this matter.

The Additional Solicitor General SV Raju is expected to respond to the Supreme Court’s query on Thursday. Manish Sisodia, who was arrested by the CBI on February 26 in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, also faced arrest by the ED on March 9 after questioning at Tihar Jail. The case was registered following allegations of corruption in the Delhi government’s liquor policy, which eventually led to its withdrawal. The CBI investigation revealed interference with spirit companies in setting the policy, resulting in significant profits for these companies.

Conclusion:

In light of the ongoing investigation, the ED is seeking legal advice in order to name the AAP as a defendant in the Delhi Liquor Policy scam case. The Supreme Court’s query raises concerns regarding the lack of charges against a political party believed to be benefiting from money laundering activities.
