According to the survey, the AfD is at a new high – the traffic light coalition is weakening

The traffic light continues to weaken in a current survey. But the Union cannot benefit from this. The AfD, on the other hand, is expanding its popularity.

If there were a federal election next Sunday, the traffic light coalition would no longer have enough of a majority. The AfD, on the other hand, should be happy. This is shown by a current survey by the GMS Institute.

Compared to the August survey, the AfD gained one percentage point and reached an all-time high of 23 percent. This puts the party in second place. According to the survey, the Union could still get the most votes with 27 percent.

The traffic light coalition, on the other hand, loses one percentage point compared to August and would only end up at 37 percent overall. Divided between the parties, the SPD achieved 16 percent. The Greens achieved the fourth largest share at 15 percent. The FDP received 6 percent of the votes.

The Left would fail at the five percent hurdle with 4 percent of the vote. The other parties can get 9 percent of the votes.

ZDF political barometer with similar results

Last week, according to another survey, the AfD was also the second strongest party nationwide. According to the “ZDF-Politbarometer”, the right-wing populists received 21 percent of the vote – one percentage point more than in the previous survey.

In principle, election surveys only reflect opinions at the time of the survey and are not predictions of the election outcome. They are also always subject to uncertainty. Among other things, weakening party ties and increasingly short-term voting decisions make it more difficult for opinion research institutes to weight the data collected.
