AfD loses again in survey – black-green possible

The AfD is losing favor with voters in surveys. The right-wing party also had to give up one percentage point in a new survey.

After the nationwide protests against the AfD’s policies, the party suffered a setback. In a current survey by the opinion research institute Insa, the AfD slipped to its lowest level since July 2023.

The AfD lost one percentage point compared to the previous week and is now only at 20 percent. The Union also lost a point, but remains clearly the strongest force with 30 percent.

According to ARD’s “Deutschlandtrend” from last week, 19 percent of respondents would vote for the AfD if there were a federal election on Sunday. This is the lowest approval rating in the survey since June 2023. Compared to the previous month, support for the right-wing radical party fell by 3 percentage points.

SPD and Greens on the rise

The SPD, on the other hand, gained one point and reached 15 percent. The Greens remain stable at 13 percent. According to the survey, the FDP remains below the five percent hurdle again and comes to four percent. The Left is in the same position and also only reaches four percent.

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), on the other hand, can defend its seven percent from the previous week and appears to be establishing itself as a new force in the political spectrum.

Black-green currently possible

Insa managing director Hermann Binkert explains: “Since 15 percent of the votes go to parties that do not overcome the five percent hurdle, including the FDP and the Left, parliamentary majorities are already possible from 43 percent.” This means that both a coalition of CDU/CSU and SPD (black-red) and one of CDU/CSU and Greens (black-green) would currently be mathematically possible.

Insa interviewed 1,202 people by telephone and online panel between January 29th and February 2nd. The uncertainty in the survey is +/- 2.9 percent.
