Amplifying African Voices for Strategic Action (AFSA) Conference 2025
Overview
The Amplifying African Voices for Strategic Action (AFSA) Conference 2025 will be held from November 21-27, 2025, at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Hosted by the African Center for the Study of the United States (ACSUS) and its partners, this conference aims to shape Africa’s role in global affairs. Building on the success of the 2024 conference in Nairobi, Kenya, the 2025 event is a side event to the G20 Summit convened by the South African government.
Conference Theme & Goals
this year’s theme is “Africa in the G20: Advancing Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability.” The overarching goal of the conference is to analyze the complex relationships between African nations and external powers. It seeks to provide alternative frameworks for balanced relationships that prioritize African interests.
Objectives
- Discuss multi-disciplinary knowledge production on Africa’s engagement in the G20.
- Interpret scholarly and practical pathways related to the 2025 G20 Summit theme.
- discuss strategies for effective African agency in the G20 across socio-political sectors.
- Amplify African voices and perspectives on global issues.
Call for Abstracts & Proposals
The conference organizers invite abstracts and proposals to contribute to discussions on critical topics. These include African agency, climate solutions, Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation, trade, and peace-building. Accepted submissions will be considered for publication in books and journals. Partnerships are also welcomed to broaden the conference’s impact.
