The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has integrated with Boundless, a zero-knowledge proving network developed by RISC Zero, to introduce native zero-knowledge (ZK) proof verification to the ledger for the first time. This development allows financial institutions to verify that transactions are valid, funded, and compliant without disclosing the transaction amounts, senders, or receivers.
The announcement was made at the XRPL Zone conference in Paris by XRPL Commons and Boundless. This integration addresses a primary barrier for institutional adoption of the XRP Ledger: the fact that every transaction on the ledger has historically been fully transparent, making treasury flows visible to competitors.
Institutional Privacy and Competitive Positioning
For banks settling billions in cross-border payments, the lack of privacy in transaction details has been a significant obstacle. According to reports, Ripple’s CTO stated in 2025 that the company was unable to use the XRPL decentralized exchange (DEX) due to compliance issues related to anonymous liquidity.
The Boundless integration enables banks to utilize the XRPL without the need to construct their own private networks, as Boundless deploys via smart contracts directly on the ledger. This architecture provides a competitive alternative to Ethereum’s zkSync Prividium, which requires institutions to launch separate layer-2 chains to achieve similar privacy outcomes.
Current Deployment Status and User Base
The native ZK proof integration is currently available on the testnet. Availability for the mainnet has not yet been confirmed.
Despite the testnet status of this specific feature, the XRP Ledger already maintains a base of institutional users, including:
- SBI Holdings
- Zand Bank
- Archax
- Guggenheim Treasury Services
Broader Ecosystem Evolutions
The addition of ZK proofs is part of a wider transition for the XRPL. In addition to the privacy layer, the network is incorporating AI-driven security and native XRP lending. The ledger is also preparing for the introduction of Agent Commerce, shifting its utility from a dedicated payments network into a more secure, multi-functional ecosystem.
These developments occur alongside broader shifts in the cryptocurrency sector, including the increasing integration of artificial intelligence agents into crypto payment systems.
