The Broadway adaptation of the Apple TV+ series “Schmigadoon!” has officially opened, with stars Alex Brightman and Sara Chase reprising their roles as Josh Skinner and Melissa Gimble in a production that blends satire, romance and classic Broadway homage.
Directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Christopher Gattelli, the musical began previews at the Nederlander Theatre on Saturday, April 4, 2026, with an opening night set for Monday, April 20. The show is scheduled to run through Sunday, September 6, 2026.
Brightman and Chase originated their roles in the Kennedy Center production earlier this year, marking their first time performing together on Broadway after a 16-year collaboration that began with the unauthorized Spider-Man parody “Spidermusical.”
The production features a book, music, and lyrics by Cinco Paul, with set design by Scott Pask, costume design by Linda Cho, lighting design by Donald Holder, sound design by Walter Trarbach, and hair, wig, and makeup design by Tom Watson — the same creative team behind the Kennedy Center staging.
In a statement, composer Cinco Paul said, “Schmigadoon! finding its new home on the Broadway stage is an absolute dream come true. Broadway is the culmination of the show’s creative journey, ending up somewhere it was born to be, giving audiences a fresh and exciting new way to fall in love with these characters and songs.”
The musical comedy follows two NYC doctors who become trapped in a Golden Age musical world, where Brightman’s character, Josh Skinner, is a musical-hating skeptic, and Chase’s Melissa Gimble embraces the genre’s joy. The show blends satire, romance, and classic Broadway homage, delivering what has been described as a “joy bomb” experience that both celebrates and pokes fun at musical theater traditions.
Tickets for the Broadway run went on sale October 15, 2025, with additional casting to be announced at a later date by The Telsey Office.
