In March, the average monthly pension received by these couples amounted to 986,848 won. This average has seen a gradual increase over the years, reaching 719,861 won in 2018, 763,322 won in 2019, 806,616 won in 2020, and 855,638 won in 2021.
Notably, there were a total of 982 couples in March whose combined monthly income exceeded 3 million won. The number of couples surpassing this threshold has seen a significant rise, escalating from just 3 couples in 2017 to 6 couples in 2018, 29 couples in 2019, 70 couples in 2020, 196 couples in 2021, and a staggering 565 couples in 2022.
Furthermore, there has been an increase in the number of couples receiving more than 2 million won per month. In 2018, there were 891 couples in this category, which grew to 1,798 couples in 2019, 3,731 couples in 2020, 7,511 couples in 2021, and an astonishing 17,194 couples in 2022. Similarly, the number of married couples receiving more than 1 million won per month has been on the rise, reaching 56,791 couples in 2018, 79,640 couples in 2019, 110,519 couples in 2020, 153,640 couples in 2021, and a remarkable 222,929 couples as of March this year.
The couple with the highest income, earning 4,690,560 won per month, resides in Busan. They have been participants of the National Pension System since its inception in January 1988. The husband contributed to the state pension insurance premiums until August 2013, while the wife continued to pay until December 2014. Currently, they each receive 2,294,710 won and 2,395,850 won monthly.
This information sheds light on the increasing number of married couples benefiting from the national pension and the substantial income some couples are enjoying.
