Elon Musk’s America Pac has funneled more than $500,000 into New York’s 17th congressional district to defend Republican incumbent Mike Lawler, marking a fresh infusion of cash in a contest expected to decide which party controls the House of Representatives, theguardian.com reported. The expenditure sits alongside $276m in broader midterm contributions Musk has directed toward conservative groups and his own super Pac since July, according to Federal Election Commission filings cited by the New York Times.
Voter Outreach and Digital Spending in the Hudson Valley
Federal disclosures reveal that the super Pac’s spending in the Hudson Valley race has primarily underwritten digital media services, voter outreach, texting campaigns, printing, and postage. Gothamist first reported on the financial backing. The incoming funds aim to rally conservative support amid voter frustration over the cost of living.

Polling indicates that Republican candidates face a slight disadvantage this cycle as voters grapple with inflation and economic pressures. America Pac previously deployed more than $2m to aid Lawler during his re-election bid in 2024.
Artificial Intelligence Regulation and Campaign Independence
Cait Conley, the Democratic challenger and former head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, criticized the financial support by arguing that Lawler shields Musk from artificial intelligence oversight rather than holding the billionaire accountable. AI poses a very real threat to the safety and security of the American people, and it’s long past time that Congress took action to regulate it,
Conley wrote on X, adding, But Mike Lawler is standing in the way, because he’s looking out for his trillionaire backer Elon Musk.

Lawler’s campaign manager, Ciro Riccardi, told Gothamist that the campaign maintains no direct connection to the independent expenditures. We have no say over what America PAC or any other outside group spends in this race,
Riccardi said, referencing federal laws that prohibit campaigns from coordinating directly with super Pacs.
