Anne Burrell, the Food Network chef and host of “Worst Cooks in America,” died June 17 at her Brooklyn home. She was 55.
Emergency responders pronounced Burrell dead at the scene after she was found unconscious early that morning. The New York City Police Department is awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
Burrell’s family released a statement, saying, “Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and freind-her smile lit up every room she entered. Her light radiated far beyond those she personally knew, touching millions worldwide. Though she’s no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and endless love will live on.”
Culinary Career
Born Sept. 21, 1969, in Cazenovia, N.Y., Burrell studied at Canisius College and the Culinary Institute of America. she debuted on “Iron Chef America” in 2005 and later hosted “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef,” which earned an Emmy nomination. She co-hosted 27 seasons of “Worst Cooks in America.”
The Anne Burrell culinary legacy extends to authorship. She penned two best-selling cookbooks, “Cook Like a Rock Star” (2011) and “Own Your Kitchen” (2013). Burrell also supported city Harvest and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
