Abdul said that due to the volcanic eruption, the airport of Maumere, the second largest town on Flores Island, has been urgently closed, and a reporting center has been set up to facilitate residents to report missing relatives. In addition, due to the threat of volcanic ash, authorities also warned of the possibility of lava flooding caused by rain and it was recommended that local residents wear masks to prevent breathing volcanic ash.
