Apparently Germany is starting to fly deportations to Afghanistan
According to a media report, Germany deported people to Afghanistan on Friday morning for the first time since the Taliban came to power.
The federal government apparently deported several criminals to Afghanistan on Friday morning. This was first reported by the news magazine “Der Spiegel”. The Saxon Ministry of the Interior confirmed the process when asked by “Zeit”. Accordingly, a Qatar Airways charter jet took off from Leipzig to Kabul early in the morning.
This is the first deportation flight since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan three years ago. Citing security circles, “Spiegel” writes that there are said to be 28 Afghan criminals on board the Boeing 787. These were brought to Leipzig from various federal states during the night.
Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia took part.
The campaign was organized by the Federal Ministry of the Interior. According to the report, each deportee received 1,000 euros in hand money. A doctor should also be on board.
Like the “Welt” reports, the focus was on serious cases. The 28 exiles are said to include an Afghan convicted in 2022 of raping a 14-year-old girl in Illerkirchberg. Accordingly, the Baden-Württemberg Interior Ministry has been demanding his expulsion for a year and a half.
It is said that the man who raped an eleven-year-old girl in Neustrelitz in 2022 was also among those deported. The criminal was given a suspended sentence at the time, which led to strong criticism from politicians at the time.
According to the “Welt” report, two Afghan criminals from Saxony-Anhalt are also on board. “These are two men,” said the country’s Interior Ministry. “One person was convicted of two counts of rape and is serving several years in a youth prison.” The second person was found guilty of sexually abusing minors and an investigation is currently being carried out for raping and supplying narcotics to minors.
Preparations for the deportation had been going on for a good two months. The fact that the flight takes place exactly one week after the knife attack in Solingen and just before state elections in East Germany gives it special significance. The traffic lights only presented a new package on Thursday to tighten the asylum and migration policy. Read more about this here. Part of the package: The government announced it would allow deportations to Syria and Afghanistan again.
Meanwhile the human rights group Amnesty International Germany has criticized the deportees. “We all have human rights – and no one should be deported to a country where there is a risk of torture,” Secretary General Julia Duchrow said on Friday.
“It is alarming that the federal government has ignored these obligations and deported people to Afghanistan.” No one is safe in Afghanistan, “extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances and torture are the order of the day.”
