It appears that the home button, which was only found in the ‘SE series’, will eventually disappear from the fourth generation ‘iPhone SE’ model, which is Apple’s entry-level smartphone series.

According to foreign media such as IT media Nine to Five Mac on the 6th, Apple’s 4th generation iPhone SE model is expected to have the 6.1-inch organic light emitting diode (OLED) panel used in the older iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. models. In particular, there is a high possibility of reusing the OLED ‘iPhone 14’, released in 2022. For this reason, the overall design is expected to be similar to the iPhone 14.

The iPhone SE 4 is expected to be 147mm tall, 71.5mm wide, and 7.7mm thick. This is almost the same size as the iPhone 14, which is 146.7mm high, 71.5mm wide, and 7.8mm thick.

It also supports the USB-C type charging method that has been supported since the iPhone 15 series.

The biggest difference between this new product and the current iPhone SE series is that the ‘home button’ which supported fingerprint recognition is gone. The home button located at the bottom of the display has been one of the symbols that Steve Jobs has maintained since the first generation iPhone introduced in 2007.

Apple eliminated the home button from the iPhone X series released in 2017, but kept it in the entry-level iPhone SE series. This is why the SE series has been in the spotlight among Apple enthusiasts.

The third-generation iPhone SE, last released in March 2022, also features a 4.7-inch display with a home button. It has the A15 Bionic chip and uses Touch ID instead of Face ID.

However, starting with this new product, it’s likely that the home button will disappear entirely.

In addition, it is expected to seek a differentiation strategy from the current product line by installing a display screen instead of the ‘dynamic island’ that has been applied since the last iPhone 14 series. Also, like its predecessor, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to support a single camera on the back.

Meanwhile, the release date of the iPhone SE4 is still unknown. The expected release date is 2025, but the main industry opinion is that it is very likely to change.
