NASA Launches Tabletop Role-Playing Game “The Lost Universe”

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has released a tabletop role-playing game (TRPG) scenario.

NASA, a space and aeronautics research institute under the United States government and the world’s most famous space organization, recently released a TRPG scenario titled “The Lost Universe” on its official website.

As the name suggests, TRPG is a game played on a table. Users sit together at a table and play assigned roles, and the game master uses dice and various tools to help the game progress. It is a game that has been loved overseas long before the advent of computers, and is also becoming known in Korea through new media such as Internet broadcasting.

As planned by NASA, the scenario is set in space. The story is about heading to Exlaris, a fictional planet where magic exists, to recover the lost Hubble Space Telescope. Here, players must use magic and science to face the villain who hijacked the Hubble Space Telescope.

The 44-page scenario contains a great deal of astronomical theory and the story needed to progress the game. NASA’s unconventional attempt this time is being interpreted as a marketing move to arouse interest in space among many people.
