Three Arrested in Kasargod POCSO Case

Mangaluru: Vitla police apprehended three individuals in connection with the molestation of a young Dalit girl that occurred in the school’s veranda. The arrested individuals are Akshay Devadiga (24) from Kasaragod Uppala Beripadav, Kamalaksha Belchada (30) from Kojappa, Bayar village, and Sukumar Belchada (28) residing in Beripadav.

The Vitla Police successfully arrested Akshay and Kamalaksha at their respective workplaces in Manjeswaram. This case involves a total of five assailants.

Last Friday, the victim, residing under Vitla police station’s jurisdiction, was clandestinely taken out at night by her male acquaintance without her family’s knowledge. Subsequently, they brought four other acquaintances to the nearby school premises and subjected her to torment. The traumatized child returned home in a frail condition, leading to the revelation of the torment when she was admitted to the hospital.

Akshay and Kamalaksha work as skilled painters while Sukumar fulfills the role of a driver. Charges have been filed against the three arrested individuals under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The police initiated legal proceedings based on the victim’s statement. The search for the remaining culprits is currently underway.
