At the age of 58… Romario comes out of retirement and plays alongside his son

Romario wrote on his Instagram account, “I will not participate in all the rounds of the tournament, but I will play some matches with my heart’s team and achieve my last dream: playing alongside my son.”

Romario will share the attack with his son Romarinho, who joined the team last March.

The former international, who played 70 matches and scored 55 goals, will also wear the shirt of Club America, which he has headed since January and whose colors he defended briefly in 2009, in the second division of the state of Rio de Janeiro, which begins in May and ends next August.

The team that won the title will play in the Rio State First Division at the beginning of 2025, where Rio teams that belong to elite Brazilian clubs, such as Flamengo, Fluminense, Vasco da Gama and Botafogo, will compete.

Since his retirement in 2009 after a long career filled with titles in his country’s league with Vasco da Gama, Fluminense, and Flamengo, and a period he spent in Europe with PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, ​​and Valencia, Spain, Romario has become involved in politics and was elected to the Senate in 2015 and renewed in 2022.
