[메디컬투데이=이승재 기자] Research has shown that avocados help prevent diabetes in women.

The results of a study examining the correlation between avocado consumption and diabetes risk were published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Diabetes.

There are approximately 12.8 million adults with diabetes in Mexico, or 15.2% of the country’s adult population.

Because diabetes can lead to serious complications that can lead to death, it is important to strictly manage your blood sugar from the beginning. You can manage your blood sugar level by correcting your lifestyle habits, such as improving your diet, exercising regularly, and taking diabetes medications consistently.

Mexican researchers studied the correlation between avocado consumption and the risk of diabetes based on medical data from 25,640 adults from the Mexican National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (ENSANUT). About 45% of participants consumed avocado, and the average daily intake was 34.7 g for men and 29.8 g for women.

The study found that avocado consumption reduces the risk of diabetes by approximately 22%.

People who consumed avocados consumed mostly healthy foods and had a higher socioeconomic status. After adjusting for these factors, avocado consumption reduced the risk of diabetes by 29 percent. However, the diabetes-preventive effect of avocado has not been observed in men.

Based on these findings, the researchers concluded that avocados are effective in preventing diabetes in women.
