2022-23 season team formation

Thank you for your continued support and voice for Chiba Jets.

First of all, many team staff have been transferred since the end of last season, which made me feel disappointed and resentful about the club, and I feel very responsible as a team GM.

It was an unexpected result, but we respected their thoughts and thoughts and made this big decision. I would like to once again thank and respect the team staff who have built up the strong Chiba Jets so far.
We would also like to take this opportunity to apologize for causing great concern to the boosters.

However, even in this big “change”, we promised to make the season even more exciting than ever by valuing the things that have not changed and the things that should not be changed with you. increase.

In order to express this change in a better way, I have thought that I should firmly verbalize the culture of the team and what should be built up in the future. The foundation of the strong Chiba Jets so far is the up-tempo basketball style of “running from an aggressive defense”. As can be said for the B League as a whole these days, Chiba Jets in the last two seasons has tended to attach importance to possession games that are mainly rebounds, and I think it is necessary to reconsider this style once again.

More “mental toughness”. More “physical toughness”. In order to pass on Chiba Jets to the next generation, I thought it was important to form the renewed Chiba Jets around these elements, including the meaning of returning to the origin. .. By embodying this style and way of thinking, we are confident that we will be able to deliver more excitement and enthusiasm to boosters, partners, and local residents who come to the venue. Even before I was involved with Chiba Jets, I was moved by this style and high-energy basketball. The restrictions imposed by the Korona-ka in the last three seasons have had a major impact, but we will show you the energy to blow it away and aim to become a team where Chiba Jets can be vital to everyone.

Now, I would like to introduce the Roster of Chiba Jets for the 2022-23 season.

First is the team staff. This time, the team staff was organized into 3 categories, “Coaching Staff, Performance & Conditioning Staff, Management Staff”. In order to firmly embody the goals of the team, we employ professional staff who have high verbalization ability and management ability in common with members as well as individual abilities and specialties. It is a team staff who maximizes the ability of the players more than ever.

First is the coaching staff. We have invited John Patrick Head Coach (HC), who has a great track record such as winning the coach of the year five times in the Bundesliga, Germany, and has a connection with Japan. John Patrick HC understands that he is a coach who can firmly embody the basketball style “running from aggressive defense” that Chiba Jets is aiming for. In the fierce defense and offense where active hands help each other, while taking advantage of the fast speed, it is a style that does not depend only on the height, but takes a firm spacing and shares the ball to score points. He is also a coach with excellent responsiveness, and I expect him to be a coach who will further raise the level of the entire B League so far.

The assistant coach (AC) joined Shinya Ogawa AC from Kyoto and Tetsuro Miyazaki AC who was engaged in coaching in Germany with John Patrick HC. Shinya Ogawa AC has experience as a player and already as an HC, and can smoothly communicate with the players from various perspectives, and I think he will demonstrate his power as an indispensable coach for the team. Tetsuro Miyazaki AC will utilize the experience value cultivated under John Patrick HC for 3 years as it is in Chiba, and although he is still young, he has abundant knowledge of basketball and will further improve the team.

Skill & Development Coach (SDC) Cody Kelly SDC plays a major role in the personal part of the player’s basket. Cody Kelly SDC went on to coach after graduating from college and was a coach at the University of Memphis, where former NBA superstar Penny Hardaway was the HC. He’s been in charge of many other NBA player workouts, and although he’s still young, he has a good track record and I’m confident that his trust will soon win and contribute to the team.

We ask video analysts (VA) to join Ryuji Hankui VA from Niigata. Ryuji Hanpaku VA is in charge of analysis of the opponent team and own team together with the coaches, aiming to improve the winning percentage of the team. Although the position of an analyst can be a tough job, he is also a person who can work persistently, and I feel that he will find hints for victory and will definitely contribute to the team. On the off-court, he has already become an indispensable part of the team staff while making the most of his character. Please pay attention not only to the coach but also to him.

The above is the coaching staff.

Next is the performance and conditioning staff. The B League has a tough schedule comparable to overseas leagues, and we believe that enhancing this position is the key to further improving the strength of the team.

Mr. Nobuhisa Yoshida, director of SR Shibuya, joined us as the director of this staff. In addition to training athletes, we also ask them to support athletes from a medium- to long-term perspective from the perspective of scientific performance analysis and training. The strength and conditioning coach (S & C), Yoshifumi Nojima, is in charge of training together with Director Yoshida. I am still a young graduate of Tsukuba Graduate School, but I think that he will face the players firmly and contribute to improving the level of the players.

Next, SR Shibuya joined Shinya Sakurai Head AT as an athletic trainer (AT) in charge of athlete conditioning. Not only the usual care, but also the rehabilitation of the athletes will be totally directed. In addition, Sakurai Head AT will supervise not only the top team but also the AT team of youth, and will work with youth. Also as an AT, I assigned Kaede Saito AT, a continuous staff member. He will be the top exclusive from this season. In addition to caring for players, we are also in charge of corona measures, aiming to create an environment where players can concentrate on playing. In addition, as a trainer who mainly performs treatment for the purpose of enhancing the care part of athletes this season, SR Shibuya also joined the trainer Yukari Tasou, and we have established a solid system.

The above 5 people are performance & conditioning staff. With this excellent staff, we aim to improve the performance of the players and improve the conditions that can withstand tough schedules. Last season was also a season of remorse, as many players left due to injuries and many people were infected with corona, which had a major impact on the final game. These are also aimed at improvement. A new nutritionist will be added in the near future to improve the performance of athletes.

Finally, the management staff. Interpreter Mai Yamaguchi and interpreter from Yokohama EX will be added to the continuation of Mai Yamaguchi. Momonika Abe has a wealth of experience not only as her interpreter, but also as a team director at Yokohama EX, as well as a track record as a staff member of the Tokyo Olympics 3X3. While improving team operations and improving operational efficiency with these two people, we will build a strong team structure, support the entire staff, and create an environment where players can concentrate on the game.

Next is about the players. Although there were no major changes from last season, I once again felt the difficulty of continuing to have talented players while training them. However, 10 players who can embody the concept of “running from aggressive defense” without blurring will re-contract, and 12 people including 2 new players will start.

The guards are team ace Yuki Togashi, Fumio Nishimura, and Sota Okura. It’s the same as last year’s members, but I’m confident that Sota Okura will play a big role as a point guard this season. In addition, the guards with strong personality will adjust with their own abilities in any situation, attracting great game control, and I think that they will overcome the crisis situation of the team.

In the shooting guard / small forward team, Christopher Smith, who is also the best 6th man of last season, is centered on Shuta Hara and Takuma Sato who have been stable as “faces of Chiba J” for the past two seasons. I think that will attract high quality performance this season as well. In addition, although the play time is limited, I expect that Yayoi Nigami, who has been fascinated by his strong impression and high potential everywhere when he participated, will make a big leap this season. During this off period, I am actively working out and training, and I think I can show my growth.

The power forward / center team is centered around John Mooney, who joined the team last season and showed stable performance as the main pillar of Chiba, and Gavin Edwards, who holds the key to Chiba’s fast tempo. It fits under John Patrick HC and will show higher performance than ever before. I think there were many people who were worried because he got sick at the end of last season. We are taking a good rest during this off period, so please be assured that you will be back in good shape at the start of the season.

And I would like to give Rashid Farrs a big role. Until now, the main rotation of Big Man was often done by foreign players and naturalized players, but I want him to keep the rotation firmly and gain experience to bring out his high potential. We believe. He is very enthusiastic, and I think he will be active with high energy and high intensity, so please look forward to it.

The great news for Chiba Jets this season is that Gaku Arao has made a comeback from Sendai. The player who returned is the first player in Chiba J, and I am very happy personally. Taking advantage of my experience so far, I think that it will be an indispensable part of the team as a spiritual pillar of the team as well as playing. Together with Fumio Nishimura, he will play an important role in balancing young people and veterans.

Finally, there is Vic Law, a new foreign player. Although it is a little undersized as a big man, he is an all-round type player who can take rebound from high athletic ability in addition to high skill and scoring ability. I am convinced that he is a player who will surely fit the Chiba J concept of “running from aggressive defense” and John Patrick HC’s system. His experience in the NBA and last season’s Australian NBL’s Top 5 of the Year have already proven his track record. John Patrick HC often employs 4-out and 5-out tactics, and he will be active in a variety of positions.

The above is the introduction of roster at the moment.
Currently, we have 1 professional contract and 2 specially designated players, and we are moving while considering various possibilities and further improving the team and considering the medium- to long-term perspective. We hope you will wait for the day when we can inform you of the good news.

This season will be a big “change” season, and it will be a challenging year again, but by having human resources who can further improve the experience value so far and clarifying the roles of each, we can become an unwavering strong organization. I’m sure.

I cherish the things that do not change and the things that should not be changed, which I mentioned at the beginning, and overcome any difficulties so that I can realize “I will be happy with all the people around Chiba Jets”, and I myself will be honest. I will work on it. We hope you enjoy the renewed Chiba Jets.

As the goal of the 2022-23 season, we will start for the first B-Club “Emperor’s Cup, East District Champion, B League Conquest”, so let’s all go to the top of the 2022-23 season! !!

Director / General Manager Yuta Ikeuchi

From President and CEO Seiya Tamura

Thank you for always giving a hot flame to Chiba Jets Funabashi.

Last season, the coaches and staff who led Chiba Jets were transferred for the six years since the opening of the B League, which caused a great deal of concern to many people.

We will lead this big change to an opportunity for Chiba Jets Funabashi to make a leap forward, and make it a club where partners, boosters, and local people who support us can continue to respond to flames. As much as possible, we have been organizing a new season centered on GM Ikeuchi.

And I am very happy to have a wonderful member who can realize that feeling and to announce the whole team of this season.

From this season, a new system, Chiba Jets Funabashi, will start with John Patrick as the head coach.

Starting with his illustrious achievements and experience in Germany, he has a deep knowledge of basketball, and John, who has a connection and understanding in Japan, is welcomed, and I am excited to be able to take a new step together. increase.

Taking advantage of the basketball style cultivated by Chiba Jets Funabashi, we are confident that the team will grow further, centered on him, and we will be able to deliver stronger and more attractive matches than ever before.

Chiba Jets Funabashi will challenge the three goals of “Emperor’s Cup championship”, “East district championship” and “B League championship”.
Taking advantage of the regrets of last season, as a challenger, we will stick to a muddy victory and we will all go to grab the glory.

From the dawn of Chiba Jets Funabashi, the end of NBL will be the first chapter, from the opening of the B League to the present, the second chapter, and from now on, the third chapter of Chiba Jets Funabashi will begin.
Chiba Jets Funabashi will make a leap forward with the opening of the new arena in 2024 and the entry of the new B1 in 2026.
Chapter 3 begins with a new head coach. Please look forward to the new challenges and activities of Chiba Jets Funabashi.

Thank you for your continued support and support for Chiba Jets Funabashi in the 2022-23 season.
