TSMC Unveils Groundbreaking 1.6nm Chip Technology: A16

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited), the largest chip manufacturer in the world. announced the launch of its most advanced 1.6nm chip technology, called A16, which increases power management efficiency and increases transistor density.

The technology is GAA (Gate-All-Around) manufacturing, which is used to place Nanosheets, which allow more electrical current to pass through. It makes the chip 10% faster, 20% more power efficient and installs 10% more transistors.

With this improved management of the power transmission network, It also causes the chipset to have higher overall performance.

It also uses a Super Power Rail (SPR) power system that improves the chip’s connection to the power source. This has a direct impact on AI and HPC processors that require complex power distribution networks.

If all goes according to plan, TSMC will begin using 1.6nm process technology in the second half of 2026. It will be able to ship the first batch of chipsets produced with this 1.6nm technology in 2027.
