Poet and thinker Farhad Mazhar emphasized that elections have nothing to do with democracy. Elections are the exercise of democracy. The government has to be elected for that practice. When the will of the people is formed, when they know what kind of state they want to establish. The issue of state formation is linked to cultural struggle.

Farhad Mazhar made this comment at the discussion on the path of the July mass uprising at the Ali Ahmed Chunka library in the city of Narayanganj on Friday evening (September 20). The discussion was organized by the civic organization ‘Path Chinta’.

Farhad Mazhar stated, “I have protested, I have said repeatedly, those who led the mass uprising cannot be taken under the current fascist constitution. But now a constitutional counter-revolution has taken place. Those who have come to power have only one job. That is, putting the will of the people into action. Of course, having a constitution is not very important. Because Britain, New Zealand, Israel don’t have a constitution. In their country, the case is also being held. First of all, it must be confirmed that the power of the people is sovereign.”

Regarding the recent attack on the shrine, the poet and political analyst said, “If you ask those who attack the shrine, they say that drugs are consumed in the shrine. If that’s the only reason, why don’t they look at the big clubs in the city? I say, let’s all get rid of drugs. Musical instruments are forbidden in shrines, so let’s stop the concerts. Actually, these are not the main points. The main thing is that they couldn’t get out of the mindset of interfering in other people’s minds.”

At the end of the discussion, Farhad Mazhar answered various questions from the audience.
