“AN INCIDENT AT THE AIRPORT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. FIRST RESPONDERS ARE ON SCENE AND ASSESSING THE SITUATION,” Bangor International Airport said in a Facebook post just before 8:30 p.m.
They asked people to avoid the airport and said the runway is closed.
The Federal Aviation Management later said the plane was a Bombardier challenger 600 and confirmed that it crashed as it was taking off from the airport around 7:45 p.m. A source familiar with the situation first reported the facts to NBC News.
The FAA also confirmed that eight people were on board but referred questions about the people on board to local authorities. The number of casualties and cause are unknown at this time.
