BeReal,the photo-sharing app that enjoyed a surge in popularity in⁤ 2022,is attempting a comeback after a period of declining downloads. The app, known for prompting users to post unfiltered, real-time photos once a day, was sold to French ‍gaming company Voodoo⁢ in 2023 for €500 million.

Ben Moore, managing director at BeReal, unveiled the company’s strategy at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The plan focuses on attracting⁣ Gen Z users who are seeking an choice to heavily ⁢filtered and curated social media content. Moore saeid ⁣the ⁣company is committed to building “the next big thing” with BeReal.

Despite a 60% drop in worldwide downloads from 31.5 million in 2023 to 12.7 million in 2024, bereal reports maintaining approximately‍ 40 million active users, primarily in ⁤Japan, France, and the U.S. Year-to-date downloads are down 50% compared to last year, according to Sensor Tower.
