Beyond Borders: Civilization VII Promises Historical Authenticity with a Twist of Modern Flexibility
Civilization VII: Balancing Historical Accuracy and Flexibility
As the latest installment in the iconic Civilization series, Civilization VII promises to deliver a fresh take on the classic gameplay while maintaining its historical roots. In a recent interview with executive producer Dennis Shirk, we delved into the delicate balance between staying true to history and allowing for creative freedom.
“Whatever it is, it is still very important to stay strictly within the historical limits. In terms of policy lines, we are flexible about where we are,” Shirk explained. This approach enables the development team to incorporate a diverse range of historical figures, including those who may not have been directly involved in politics. Benjamin Franklin, for instance, was primarily a scientist, but his influence on American history is undeniable. By including such figures, we’re not only adding diversity but also allowing players to engage in more exciting and unpredictable gameplay.
One of the most significant features in Civilization VII is the ability to change your civilization as you enter a new era. This mechanic, known as Age Switch, offers a fresh layer of strategy and replayability. To learn more about Age Switch and the game’s development, check out our full interview with Dennis Shirk.
Civilization VII is set to release on February 11, 2025, for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
