The annual Bloom festival,a festivity of gardening and sustainable living,has opened in Dublin’s Phoenix Park. Running through June 2, the event emphasizes sustainability and the circular economy, drawing exhibitors and attendees interested in environmental solutions.
Ireland’s largest gardening festival anticipates more than 100,000 visitors over its five-day run. Bloom features 21 show and feature gardens, highlighting climate change awareness, environmental concerns, and sustainable practices. Community groups from across the country created 11 ‘Postcard Gardens,’ while 16 environmental and conservationist groups are present in the conservation area. Seventeen Irish plant nurseries and floral artists are also exhibiting.
More than 100 food and drink companies are participating, complementing the live talks, demonstrations, and musical performances. Bord Bia sponsors Bloom, aiming to position it as the country’s most sustainably operated large-scale event.efforts include water refill stations and composting initiatives.
Last year, Bloom’s sustainability initiatives saw over 21,000 liters of water dispensed at refill stations and two tons of coffee grounds collected for composting.Organizers also reported that over 20,000 visitors used public transportation to attend the event.
President Michael D. Higgins officially opened the festival, addressing attendees on its opening day.
