BOSTON – Sicilian-American singer sissy is set to release her ‍new single, “Blu,” on May 9, marking⁣ a departure from her established jazz ⁣sound toward rock and blues.⁤ A music video will follow shortly after the single’s digital release.

Sissy, a professor of Jazz and contemporary singing at Berklee College of Music in Boston, has garnered acclaim for her innovative “Sicilian Jazz” style. Her 2021 album, “Terra,” was considered for four Grammy Award nominations.

“Blu”: A Song of Courage and Change

“blu” explores the courage required to ⁤make ‍critically important,⁤ unconventional choices. According to Sissy, the song captures the moment of self-reflection amidst change, questioning one’s path while⁢ concurrently embracing the audacity to pursue it.

“Blue speaks of that exact moment,” Sissy said, “in which you then look in the mirror and in the turbine of all this ⁤change that ⁤you have implemented you ‍stop for a moment and ask yourself: ‘But what am ⁢I doing?’ And while a thousand doubts, uncertainties, and all the⁤ belief you ⁣had begun to falter, realize you, you realize that ⁣you are completely out of your mind and to have the courage and above all the unconsciousness to really do it.”

This new direction reflects⁢ Sissy’s lifelong connection to blues, soul, and rock, genres that served as the soundtrack to her early life. After dedicating 20 years to jazz, including extensive study and immersion in African American culture, Sissy is returning to her roots while incorporating her experiences in both Sicily and the United States.

“As a child I‍ started with the blues, soul and⁤ rock, they where the soundtrack of all the challenges of my life,” ⁢she said. “Then I entered the ⁢jazz and 20 years I went to America to study ⁢and explore this genre and immerse myself completely⁣ in the African American culture. Now, at ‍the 40th century threshold, I have crossed a very delicate phase, With very strong changes of life. All of myself at 360⁤ degrees, from Sicily to America, and from America to Italy.”

Sissy wrote “Blu,” which was produced and arranged by Pierpaolo Latina. The recording features Gianpaolo Lombardo on drums, Antonio Moscato on bass, Osvaldo Iacono ⁣on guitars, Pierpaolo Latina on piano, Hammond, and programming, Giuseppe Spampinato on trumpet, Fabio Tiralongo on sax, Nando Sorbello on ‍trombone, and Teresa Randeri and ⁣Esmeralda Pennisi on backing vocals.
