Gokulam Movies, a leading Malayalam film production company, is entering the Hindi and Telugu film industry. The first will be a Hindi remake of ‘Udal’ which will be released on May 20. The Hindi version of the film will be directed by Ratheesh Raghunandan.
Directed by Ratheesh Raghunandan, the film stars Indrans, Dhyan Srinivasan and Durga Krishna in the lead roles.

Why build a big production house like Gokulam and make a small film called Udal?
This is a small film but a big theme. As we have read in the newspapers all this time, the story of the body begins with an incident. After a while it becomes a story with the character of a big movie. That’s why I like this movie.
In our country, such stories have never been seen in a movie. I have seen scenes like this in all foreign movies. I wanted such a film to come out in Malayalam as well. I think the audience will like it anyway. The show has seemed a bit unfocused in recent episodes.
It has been said that body is a subject that has not been tried in Malayalam yet. How did you feel when you saw the movie?
I loved it when I heard the story. There is something in the movie that thrills us in the theater. Even though I knew the story, I was thrilled to see the movie in the theater. Despite being a newcomer director, Ratheesh Raghunandan has done well in film.
How was the performance of the actors including Indrans?
In a word, outstanding. Indrans’ child is a character who has no eyesight. His gait and gaze are reflected on the screen. Indrans’ performance in the second half was the best of his career. Durga Krishna also portrays her character beautifully. Durga’s performance is one of the best in recent times.
After Malayalam, films are being made in other languages. What are Gokul’s Bollywood and Tollywood plans?

There are big projects ahead, including the nineteenth century. What else is Gokulam Movies preparing for the audience in Malayalam?
We are preparing a number of highly anticipated films for the audience. Ajay Vasudev starrer starring Kunchacko Boban and Rajisha Vijayan is coming to an end day and night.
The film also stars Guru Somasundaram and Jai Bhim Fame Tamil. Another Vinayan film is from the nineteenth century. Starring Siju Wilson and Anoop Menon, the film is a big budget film.
After the super hit movie Liquor Island and Home starring Suraj Venjaramoodu, Roshan Mathew, Atithi Ravi and Sanusha, there will be several more films like Jayasurya’s Kathanar directed by Rojin John.
You don’t see superstar movies in any of these movie projects? Problems with data?
Hey, no. Gokulam emphasizes story and time value over movie stars. The cast is selected for each film. Superstars are our pride. Movies with them are in the plans. It will be announced soon.
