While British writers are strongly featured, the inclusion of authors from across the globe underscores the Booker Prize’s commitment to recognizing literary excellence on an international scale.
“This year’s list also features ‘the highest number of different nationalities we’ve seen on a Booker prize longlist for a decade’, yet ‘British writers are strongly represented too’,” noted the chair of the judges, Eleanor Doyle.
The longlist includes five British writers: Emily Brown, Tom Buckley, Jonathan Miller, Adam Szalay (who is Hungarian-British), and Benjamin Wood for his novel Seascraper.

Notably, there are no Irish writers on this year’s list,a departure from recent years where irish authors have been prominently featured.
The Rigorous Selection Process
The task of narrowing down the submissions was described as “agony” at times by Doyle. A total of 153 books were submitted for consideration, all writen in English and published in the UK or Ireland between October 1, 2024, and september 30, 2025.
joining Doyle and Parker on the judging panel are acclaimed novelist Kiley Reid and writer and critic Chris Power. This diverse group of literary minds will undoubtedly bring a rich array of perspectives to the selection process.

Parker’s involvement in the literary sphere extends beyond her role as a judge. She follows in the footsteps of other actors who have served on the Booker Prize panel in recent years, including Adjoa Andoh and Robert Webb.
When the panel was announced in December,Doyle expressed her enthusiasm for Parker’s contribution, stating that in recent months she had “enjoyed sharing book recommendations with Sarah Jessica, who has passionately supported contemporary fiction for many years.”
Parker’s dedication to literature began in 2016 when she served as editorial director at SJP for Hogarth, an imprint of Penguin.
