Suspect in Custody after Boulder ‌Attack During Hostage Awareness Walk

An Egyptian national is in custody ‌following an attack on a walk in support⁣ of Israeli hostages in Gaza ⁣at Boulder, Colorado’s Pearl ⁣Street Mall on Sunday.‍ The FBI is​ investigating the incident ‍as a “targeted act​ of⁤ violence.”

Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, is suspected of using a⁢ “makeshift flamethrower” and molotov ⁢cocktails, according⁣ to ⁣FBI Special Agent in Charge Mike Michalek. Witnesses reported that Soliman shouted “Free Palestine”⁢ during the attack. Authorities are investigating the incident as a potential act of terrorism.

Soliman,who arrived⁢ in California in 2022 on a non-immigrant visa that​ expired in February 2023,had been residing in Colorado Springs. Following‍ the attack, the FBI conducted court-authorized law enforcement activity in El Paso⁣ County, where Colorado Springs is located.
